Sermorelin Acetate is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), composed of the first 29 amino acids of the naturally occurring GHRH. It stimulates the pituitary gland to produce and release endogenous growth hormone (GH), thereby promoting growth and metabolic functions.
- Sermorelin binds to GHRH receptors in the anterior pituitary gland, mimicking the action of endogenous GHRH. This binding stimulates the synthesis and pulsatile release of growth hormone from somatotropic cells. Unlike direct HGH administration, sermorelin preserves the body's natural feedback mechanisms, reducing the risk of excessive hormone levels.
- Sermorelin has been utilized for:
- Diagnosing Growth Hormone Deficiency: Assessing pituitary function by stimulating GH release.
- Treating Growth Hormone Deficiency in Children: Promoting normal growth in pediatric patients with inadequate endogenous GH production.
- Off-label Use in Adults: Addressing age-related GH decline, potentially improving body composition, energy levels, and overall well-being.
- Common side effects include:
- Injection Site Reactions: Pain, redness, swelling, or irritation.
- Systemic Effects: Headache, flushing, dizziness, nausea.
